The Black Pig, Kinsale

I had the pleasure of eating in The Black Pig. A European inspired wine bar surrounded by narrow streets and high walls, there’s an air of romanticism with this hidden establishment. The people are few and the drinks many, just how I like it. The friendly and professional staff kept the bread basket filled and the service prompt, so much so that I barely had time to enjoy the airy, stylish interior or take in the beautiful back garden. Benefiting from the sea air and plenty of natural lighting, the environment is almost as good as the food. Almost.
For my starter, I had a variety of breads with oils and vinegar, black olives and a mixture of sun-dried tomatoes with fresh mozzarella. For the main I had a delicious crab ravioli with tarragon and Parmesan sauce, that was quite simply the most delicate pasta I’ve ever had. For drinks, a bottle of Pionero Mundi, an exciting little fruity number. Each dish gave me flavours I’d never really had and combinations I wouldn’t have dreamt of. Bravo Black Pig, youse did yourself proud.
